Microsoft tablet computer anticipated

March 9th, 2006

Microsoft is expected to soon release a version of Windows that may popularize a type of personal computer that is bigger than an iPod but smaller than a laptop. This type of computer has about a 7″ (measured diagonally) touch screen, and while they sometimes have popout keyboards, apparently Microsoft’s version of Windows for these computers may have circular touch screen keyboards that you use your thumbs to operate. I think this type of computer could be pretty neat. Tablet computers powered by Microsoft software have historically been too big for my taste. One of these new computers may be perfect for watching a movie on the go, browsing the web on the go, acting as an electronic book reader, or replacing a notepad. Here’s hoping that their hardware partners do a good job with the design.

Update, 3/9/06: Microsoft spills the beans on what exactly it’s doing: http://origamiproject.com/blogs/team_blog/archive/2006/03/08/4.aspx
