Dev starts his bar

My friend Dev is making his dream of owning and operating a bar a reality. He’s already getting great buzz, in the LA Times

New plank for the Redwood

It’s a sad truth: So many of the great bars are gone. When you think of downtown L.A., you think about such old-timers as Al’s Bar, Gorky’s, Yi Me Loo and the Redwood House, a 2nd Street bar that bore the distinction of being in close proximity to the Los Angeles Times offices. And it was good enough for JFK. When it closed last July, the veteran tavern had seen better days. Now it’s in the hands of entrepreneur Dev Dugal and former Golden Gopher GM Christian Frizzell, and downtowners can look forward to the Redwood’s rebirth in September. Designer Fred Sutherland (Deep, Forty Deuce) is creating a nautical-themed watering hole with a penchant for pirates…. And speaking of downtown, the Golden Gopher celebrates two years of making downtown hip tonight.

One of the smartest moves Dev’s team has made appears to be choosing a site that could become the new watering hole for Los Angeles Times journalists!
