On January 21, 2009, I guest lectured to Professor Navdeep Mundi’s marketing class of about 350 students at the University of California at Riverside. The topic was “Understanding Consumer Behavior”.
I’m very thankful to Professor Mundi for the invitation, and to everyone who attended the class for being so attentive and interested! I greatly enjoyed the experience, and look forward to teaching again soon.
Here are the slides from the lecture:
During the lecture I mentioned two books, which I’ve been subsequently asked about.
The book on how people tend to choose their geographical location based on finding like minded people to live next to is Bill Bishop’s The Big Sort. It suggests people tend to prefer living in a community of shared values and this has caused America to sort itself geographically into a patchwork quilt of different communities.
The book Barack Obama was reading, that caused alot of other people to read it, is Fareed Zakaria’s The Post-American World. It’s about how America will do well, but a lot of other countries are rising in importance with a speed and scale that’s often overlooked.
